Join us for some great fun at Dynamo!

So proud of Team Canada and Dynamo’s Brooklyn Moors

Canadian women’s artistic gymnastics team advances to multiple event finals in Tokyo

TOKYO, JPN (July 25, 2021) – Brooklyn Moors of Cambridge, ON and Ellie Black of Halifax, NS led team Canada to a 10th place finish in the qualification round of women’s artistic gymnastics Sunday in Tokyo, missing out on advancing to the team finals. Both advanced to the individual all-around final finishing 22nd and 24th respectively.

The team, which also includes Shallon Olsen (Surrey, BC), and Ava Stewart (Bowmanville, ON), had been hoping to qualify for the team finals after narrowly missing out on advancing at the last Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and were obviously disappointed in the overall results. They ended the day with a total score of 160.964. The Russian team took the top team qualifying spot, edging out the USA and China who rounded out the top-3. The top-8 teams advanced.

“Today was a bit of a rough go, but there were also some really good things that happened,” said Black after the competition. “It’s really tough coming into the Olympics after a year and a half of not competing in-person, so for us, I think it was really just about getting out there and showing what we can and trying our absolute best, which we did and I’m proud of us.”

When asked about her plans for the all-around finals, Black added: “My all-around performance today wasn’t what I wanted, but I’m also coming off an ankle injury, and I wasn’t even sure I’d be able to compete a few weeks ago, so that being said, I’m proud of what I was able to do and I know I can do better, so I’m hoping I can make some of those improvements in the finals.”

Olsen advanced to her second consecutive Olympic Games vault final scoring a 14.699 to qualify 6th for the finals which take place next Sunday, August 1st.

“Today was a little bit stressful for me, I haven’t competed for over a year with this team, and just being back out there on the big stage is just something I wanted to take in and enjoy,” said Olsen who has been competing in the NCAA this past season with the University of Alabama. “It was obviously a little bit different not having the crowd there, but I think the cheerfulness and excitement kept me going this whole time and I know my teammates had my back throughout the whole meet and I’m really, really grateful for that.

Black also qualified for the beam finals that take place on Monday, August 2nd.

Simone Biles of the USA took the top qualifying spot in the all-around, followed by Rebecca Andrade of Brazil in second, and Sunisa Lee of the USA in third. The top-24 athletes, with only two athletes per country, advance to the all-around finals which take place on Thursday, July 29th.

FINAL RESULTS FOR TEAM CANADA WOMEN:

  • Ellie Black – VT: 14.533; UB: 12.800; BB: 14.100; FX: 12.266. Total: 53.699
  • Brooklyn Moors – VT: 14.133; UB: 13.000; BB: 13.300; FX: 13.533. Total: 53.966

Summer Camp Update

We would like to thank our families already registered in our Summer Camp 2020 programs for their patience. We hope you are all staying well.

Dynamo is planning to offer our Summer Camp programs as scheduled, and we are especially excited after the province of Ontario announced summer camps will go ahead, with strict health and safety restrictions in place.

At this time Dynamo, along with other gymnastics clubs across Ontario, is awaiting direction from our sport governing body as to what guidelines will be implemented to ensure safety of all participants and staff. In anticipation of offering camp programs, we are diligently planning camp activities that will comply with new health and safety restrictions, including physical distancing.

We would also like to share important news that Dynamo was permitted by the province to resume training for our competitive members as of June 1, and our Covid-19 safety and cleaning protocols have already been inspected by Region of Waterloo Public Health. We passed with flying colours! We have specified entrance and exit protocols, gym use rotations and exceptional cleaning schedules. We have secured cleaning products and technology, including an electro-static sprayer, which are all approved to kill Covid-19 and are safe for use. We also have a thermal scanner on site to screen for fevers. The same attention to detail will most certainly be applied to our recreational programs.

We fully understand, however, not all families may feel comfortable reintroducing their children to recreational programs just yet. We are very sensitive to these issues and will offer credits/refunds for camp. Refunds (made via cheque only) must be requested one week before the start of a registered camp. Credits, applied to Dynamo family accounts, will not expire and can be used toward future programs or purchase of merchandise.

We are looking forward to seeing smiling faces back in the gym for camp and we will update our families as soon as we receive more news regarding summer camp programs. Please note we will be asking families to sign updated waivers as part of Gymnastics Ontario’s Covid-19 response plan.

Stay safe and well everyone! We hope to see you all soon!

Summer Camp is On!

Dynamo Gymnastics Summer Camps approved to run!

It’s On! Gymnastics Summer Camps have been officially approved by Gymnastics Ontario, which means summer camps can begin as of July 6!

Our Summer Camps have always been a much-loved opportunity to engage in active, positive sport and recreation programs, and we’re working hard to make sure that continues, even during these challenging times.

Dynamo will implement the same exceptional cleaning and organization protocols adopted and tested upon the return of our competitive team on June 1. We have already been inspected by the Region of Waterloo Public Health and passed with flying colours!

While the spirit embraced in our Summer Camp program will feel the same, camps will look and run a little differently in order to comply with health and safety protocols. Here are just a few of the changes:

  • Structured entrance and exit practices / divided gym zones to ensure physical distancing
  • Daily health screening, including on-site thermal scans, to ensure everyone is healthy enough to attend camp
  • Heightened cleaning and sanitizing using electro-static spray technology / non-toxic cleaners approved to kill Covid-19 virus
  • Smaller group sizes | no overlap between groups
  • Added supervision to monitor physical distancing and provide support
  • Planned rotations to ensure equipment is cleaned and sanitized before and after each use
  • Emphasis on smart and safe hygiene etiquette, including repeated handwashing and use of hand sanitizers / Child-friendly signage to boost education

Other important information

  • All families must complete Covid-19 Gymnastics Ontario waivers before attending Camp programs
  • As of June 22, campers must be at least six years old to register. We will, however, honour previously enrolled campers aged 4 and 5. (All campers must absolutely be bathroom independent!)
  • As directed by the provincial government and Gymnastics Ontario, no spotting is currently permitted in camp programs.
  • To comply with new regulations, Before-Care and After-Care will no longer be offered (Reminder: this was a free service)
  • Check-in opens at 8:30 a.m. following a “Kiss at the Curb” protocol
  • Viewing lounge is closed and repurposed for camp use and to minimize numbers in the building

We are thrilled to be able to offer our Summer Camp programs and look forward to seeing you in the gym with us!

Dynamo Covid-19 Bulletin: Spring Session Updates

Dear Dynamo Gymnastics Membership,

We are reaching out to our members to extend a sincere thank you for your patience as we do our very best to adapt recreational programming to reflect rapidly unfolding developments as a result of the unprecedented Covid-19 virus.

As we are closely following guidance from government and health authorities, Dynamo will be further delaying the start of our Spring Session. We are obligated to do our part to protect the well-being of our members and staff and have a duty to help flatten the curve and preserve our all-important health care system.

At this time, we are working to develop creative and flexible gymnastics program options for families already enrolled in our Spring Session, and we’re optimistic our solutions will be worth the wait. Families familiar with Dynamo and our staff know we always go above and beyond for our members. This time of crisis is no exception.

We will communicate revised program options for a new Spring Session start date as soon as more details are available. We are asking our members to stay the course with us in anticipation of a return to programming, when it’s safe to do so.

Although these feel like dark days, it’s vital we remain positive. Once we move through these challenging times – and we will – we will need to help our children re-engage in the community and we will be here to provide positive and engaging recreational gymnastics programming.

While Dynamo is closed, we are actively cleaning and sanitizing our facility’s equipment and are updating our protocols to be sensitive to new health awareness standards.

Please be assured your program spot in our soon-to-be-updated session plan is secure, and your Dynamo family account will be appropriately adjusted to reflect any credit due once our new session options are announced. (Please note: Credit is defined as unused funds placed on your Dynamo account.) Credits do not expire and can be used for any purchase at Dynamo.

We are proud to be part of a greater 37-million-strong Team Canada working together to navigate this pandemic, and we thank everyone for their efforts, especially our front-line health care workers and essential store employees who are stepping up when we need them the most.

Please note our Dynamo facility is closed during this period of social distancing, and we are only communicating via email. Voicemail messages cannot be returned at this time. Please email info@dynamogymnastics.ca with inquiries. We ask for continued patience, as we’re doing our best to respond as soon as possible.

We wish all of our members health and happiness.

Sincerely,

Your Dynamo Team

Dynamo Closed until April 5: We’re doing our part to stop the spread

At this time, Dynamo’s facility is closed, as we are doing our part to “flatten the curve” and prevent spread of the Covid-19 Virus. We are scheduled to restart operations as of April 5, and the office will reopen when we begin gearing up to resume programs. We will announce office hours updates when they are confirmed.

Please be assured we are honouring requests for refunds/credits for cancelled/postponed programs and will respond as soon as possible. We greatly value our loyal members. You are all part of our Dynamo family.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Health and happiness to you and your family during this uncertain time.

Sincerely,
Your Dynamo Team

Covid-19 Response Update: March Break Camp Cancelled / Spring Session Postponed

Covid-19 Update: Spring Session Classes Postponed / March Break Camp Cancelled

As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, the health and well-being of our participants and staff remains our top priority. We want to make our members aware Dynamo has been following the lead of the Region of Waterloo Public Health regarding recreational programming.

This afternoon, the Region announced changes to its recreational and community programming, resulting in the closure of municipal facilities and programs, from March 16 to April 5. As we are taking direction from the Region and the City of Cambridge, Dynamo has also made the decision to cancel our March Break Camp and to postpone the start of our Spring Session.

The Spring session will now begin on Sunday, April 5, and will run until Monday, June 22.  Members will automatically receive a two-week credit on their account for postponed classes.

Thank you to our loyal members for your patience and understanding as we navigate this unprecedented experience. We wish your families all the best and good health and look forward to seeing you back with our Dynamo Family in a few weeks.

Sincerely,

Your Team at Dynamo Gymnastics

Dynamo Gymnastics Bulletin: Spring Session Update (Covid-19)

Dynamo Gymnastics Bulletin: Spring Session Update (Covid-19)

In light of the recent developments regarding the COVID-19 virus this week, including the closure of all publicly-funded schools for two weeks following March Break, we have understandably received queries about the status of our Spring Session programs at Dynamo.

At this time, the Ontario Gymnastics governing body has advised member clubs to continue running programs as scheduled. Given this direction, Dynamo will be offering our Spring Session as planned, starting March 22.

As we know this is a sensitive issue during a time of unknown, Dynamo is offering two-class credit to families already booked in our Spring Session who prefer not to attend gymnastics classes during the school closure. This credit only applies to classes offering during the two-week school closure period.

We want to assure you the health and well-being of our students, families, staff and the community is paramount for us. While the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) has assessed the public health risk as low, we recognize the situation is always changing and we are guided by the research and response of the local health and municipal authorities.

At Dynamo, we have already implemented additional measures of prevention, including:
• increasing the frequency of sanitization of all commonly used areas and surfaces around the gym.
• asking participants, staff and visitors to wash their hands immediately upon arrival, during programming, before and after eating, and again upon exiting our club.

(In anticipation of increasing sanitization practices, Dynamo had already stocked up on cleaners, soap and hand sanitizing gel.)

Waterloo Region Public Health offers many everyday actions on how to protect yourself and prevent spread of germs and viruses like COVID-19:

  • Wash your hands often with warm water and soap or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer
  • Avoid contact with people who are sick
  • Stay home when you are sick
  • Sneeze and cough into your sleeve
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth

Dynamo also asks those who have travelled out of the country during March Break not to attend the first two weeks of classes to minimize health risks.

For more information on symptoms and how to protect yourself, visit Region of Waterloo Public Health.

Dynamo will base further actions on recommendations of health authorities and will communicate any changes to programming as quickly as possible.

We know this is an uncertain time for everyone and ask for your patience as we navigate this uncharted territory together.

Sincerely,
Your Dynamo Gymnastics Team
