Dynamo’s Brooklyn Moors finishes 16th in Olympic All-Around Finals
/in Competition News, NewsTOKYO, JPN (July 29, 2021) – Brooklyn Moors of Cambridge, ON took to the competition floor on Thursday at the Ariake Gymnastics Centre in Tokyo, JPN in the women’s all-around finals and laid down four solid routines to finish the day in 16th position.
Sunisa Lee of the USA took the gold, while Rebecca Andrade of Brazil took silver, and Angelina Melnikova of Russia captured bronze.
“I didn’t think about what I would come in overall today, I just focused more on having fun and on myself. I had a few mistakes here and there, but overall it was pretty consistent and I’m happy,” said Moors following the competition.
Moors, who trains at Dynamos Gymnastics in Cambridge, was the lone Canadian to compete in the final due to the withdrawal of Ellie Black of Halifax, NS on Wednesday because of an injury to her ankle sustained in training.
“I honestly did my best for what I could right now. I didn’t have a lot of time to prepare, but I’m really really proud of myself that I was able to get ready in such a short amount of time with a lot of help from a lot of people which I’m really thankful for,” added Moors who only began training consistently in early March because of a nagging back injury.
When asked about not having Black on the floor with her, Moors stated: “I was sad for her, she worked so hard and she deserved it, and I think it would have been our fourth all-around together – but she drew something on my bag for today so she was with me.”
Moors started the evening on beam where she scored a 12.433. An inquiry was submitted following her score being posted but her score remained unchanged. Next up was floor where Moors demonstrated her beautiful artistry once again and scored a 13.566. On vault, she scored a 14.300, and she finished up the evening with another clean routine on the uneven bars to score a 13.000 for a total score of 53.299.
Next up in the artistic gymnastics competition for Canada are the apparatus finals which kick off on Sunday, August 1st where Shallon Olsen of Surrey, BC will be competing in the vault final. Tuesday, August 3rd will feature the balance beam final which Black has qualified for and hopes to compete in.
FINAL RESULTS FOR BROOKLYN MOORS:
- Beam: 12.433
- Floor: 13.566
- Vault:14.300
- Uneven Bars: 13.000
- Total score: 53.299
Step 3 is here! Fall Recreational Classes coming soon!
/in COVID-19, News, Program UpdatesIt’s time to celebrate!
Now that our region is in Step 3 of Ontario’s Roadmap to Re-opening plan, we finally have the green light we’ve been waiting for to host recreational and advanced gymnastics and tumbling classes.
We’re working hard to prepare to launch our Fall Session (tentatively set for Sept. 11 to Dec. 17), and will confirm and share the schedule and registration dates in the upcoming weeks. We are VERY excited!
(Please note will not be running any summer classes, as we are currently offering a full-day, full-week summer camp program.)
This is great news for our community’s youth, who are so eager to reconnect in sport and recreational programs. And we miss seeing our families, too!
Watch for announcements regarding our Fall Session schedule and registration dates coming soon on our website and social media.
Health and happiness to everyone!
All programs will adhere to government health and safety measures and protocols to ensure the health and well-being of our members and staff.
Excitingg News! Summer Camp 2021 has been approved to run
/in News, Program UpdatesWe know you’ve been waiting for good news, so we’re thrilled to be able to finally share some awesome updates with our loyal families and even some new members!
We’ve received the green light to run our Summer Camp program after receiving confirmation from our sport governing body Gymnastics Ontario and officials at the Region of Waterloo Public Health.
We are approved to run indoor sports day camps, provided all the health and safety regulations are in place. Campers will still get to experience great gymnastics activities using our equipment and engage in themed-based games and crafts … all supervised by our certified coaches.
We only made limited spots available for each week upon launching registration back in February, but now that we have the go-ahead we are opening additional spots and will begin drawing from our wait lists (in order). Families on our wait list will be contacted by our office shortly.
If anyone is interested in joining our waitlist or learning more about our camp themes and fees, please see our Summer Camp section.
Be assured that strict health and safety Covid-19 measures will be in place, including daily health screening and a mandatory mask rule for all participants while indoors (except where medical exemptions allow and while eating/drinking). Dynamo’s facilities are frequently cleaned and sanitized during the day and handwashing stations and hand sanitizers are located throughout the facility. Updated protocols will be shared shortly.
Looking forward, we anticipate our recreational classes will be permitted to resume in Step 3 of Ontario’s Roadmap to Reopening plan. Once regulations for this phase are released, we will be able to better plan for our next recreational session.
Stay tuned for more updates on our website and social media. Thank you to our Dynamo families for hanging in with us and trusting us to offer safe and engaging gymnastics programs for your children. Can’t wait for camp to start!

Covid-19 Response Update: Winter Session Postponed
/in COVID-19, News, Program UpdatesHoliday Greetings Dynamo Winter Session Families!
We know you’re excited to get our Winter Session started, as are we! That’s why we’re hoping you agree that good things are worth waiting for.
While there is a light at the end of the tunnel in the battle against Covid-19, we are sad to say our Winter Session will not begin as planned the week of Jan. 2 following that announcements Southern Ontario regions will move into Lockdown as of Boxing Day.
What this means for our Winter Session families is a postponed session start date. We will monitor government announcements to keep members updated regarding a new start date. The good news is participants won’t miss out on their favourite classes because we will be offering the same number of weeks by extending the session end date. We encourage registered members to keep their spots, as any class openings will go quickly once the government gives us the green light to re-open programs.
To thank our families for their patience and loyalty, Dynamo is offering Winter Session members a chance to win a free Dynamo Gymnastics 4’x8’ panel mat custom made for Dynamo by Partnership Sponsor and equipment supplier, Spieth America. (Valued at $240) The winner will be announced March 12. Members must be currently enrolled at the time of the draw to be eligible – each child registered in Winter 2021 will be automatically entered in the draw. Good luck to everyone!
Holiday Hint: For those who can’t wait, our club is currently selling the custom quality gymnastics mats in time for Christmas. Purchase is available via your Dynamo online family account or by contacting our office. Last chance to purchase Dec. 24.
Thank you for all your patience and supportive feedback as we do our absolute best to offer safe and engaging opportunities for our youth and their families to experience the benefits of sport. And rest assured Dynamo continues to set the standard for Covid-19 health and safety protocols. The safety and well-being of our staff and members means everything to us.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at info@dynamogymnastics.ca or 519-658-4670.
Health and happiness for the holidays to you and yours.
Kindest regards,
Dynamo Admin Support Team
Let Dynamo help make your gymnast’s Christmas wishes come true
/in NewsCovid-19 Response Update: Remainder of Fall Classes Cancelled
/in COVID-19, News, Program UpdatesHello Fall Session families,
It is with a heavy heart we are contacting you today to advise you we have come to the difficult decision to cancel the remainder of our Fall Session classes.
Despite valiant efforts to keep recreational programs running as scheduled, this endeavour is simply not feasible due to restrictions required under Ontario’s COVID-19 Response Framework Red-Control category, which only permits 10 people per facility.
While we did consider virtual Zoom programs as an option, we believe our members find better value in the experience of safely engaging in coach-led classes on approved equipment in our facility.
We know you are disappointed our Fall programs have been cut short. We are, too. But we are supportive of any efforts to help quickly reduce cases of Covid-19 in our region in anticipation of brighter days ahead next year.
Rest assured our team is still working hard to celebrate achievements our gymnasts made during our Fall Session. Our coaches had already completed testing before cancellation of classes, and we are in the process of completing report cards and certificates. Report cards and certificates will soon be emailed to each gymnast.
Credits will automatically be placed on Dynamo family accounts for all classes missed in the Fall Session, credits which can be used toward any future fees or purchase of merchandise, including Dynamo branded gymnastics items to put under the Christmas tree. Credits will not expiry and can be used by any family member.
For questions regarding family accounts or Dynamo recreational programming, please call our office at 519-658-4670 (our office is open from 12 to 7:30 p.m. from Monday to Friday) or email info@dynamogymnastics.ca.
Health and happiness to your family.
Sincerely,
Dynamo Admin Support Team
Dynamo Covid-19 Update: No classes Monday, Nov. 30 to Sunday, Dec. 6
/in COVID-19, News, Program UpdatesHello members of our Fall Session,
First, we’d like to take a moment to thank you for your patience as we cautiously navigate this second Covid-19 wave together. It’s heartwarming to know our members appreciate our above-and-beyond efforts to make our facility a safe place to engage in the wonderful sport of gymnastics.
As promised, we are reaching out to you today to provide a weekly program update. This afternoon, the Region of Waterloo Public Health confirmed our region will remain in the Red-Control category of Ontario’s Covid-19 Response Framework strategy for at least another week. This means gymnastics clubs are required to restrict programming to 10 participants per facility.
Following this announcement, Dynamo is cancelling classes from Monday, Nov. 30 to Sunday, Dec. 6. Credits will automatically be placed on accounts for these missed classes.
We will continue to follow our optimistic and practical approach to programming for the remainder of our Fall Session, and will review all government announcements as they unfold. All updates will be communicated weekly via email and social media channels.
We know this news is a little disheartening, but the well-being of our members and our staff remains the top priority. Your loyalty is greatly appreciated as we all work to do our part.
If you have questions regarding account credits or programming updates, please call our office at 519-658-4670 (our office is open from 12 to 7:30 p.m. from Monday to Friday) or email info@dynamogymnastics.ca.
Dynamo Covid-19 Response Update: No classes Monday, Nov. 23 to Sunday, Nov. 29
/in COVID-19, News, Program UpdatesHello Fall Session Families,
Dynamo has been working wholeheartedly to modify our facility and safety protocols to meet and exceed rapidly changing restrictions introduced as part of Ontario’s new Covid-19 Response Framework strategy.
With expectations the Region of Waterloo would move into the Red-Control category on Friday, Dynamo was very prepared to meet the criteria for that designation. Once the announcement was made, however, the Red zone criteria definitions changed significantly, requiring clarification.
This morning, we received confirmation from Gymnastics Ontario the new Red zone criteria means gymnastics clubs can only host a maximum of 10 people “per facility” at any given time, as opposed to the 10 people “per room” criteria previously listed.
As you can imagine, these changes make it difficult to offer classes as planned, therefore we will be forced to cancel classes from Monday, Nov. 23 to Sunday, Nov. 29. Credits will automatically be placed on accounts for these missed classes.
Since regulations are ever-changing, we are taking an optimistic and practical approach to programming for the remainder of our Fall Session. We will follow all government announcements and review our program status, providing weekly updates to our members via email and social media. An email has been sent to our current Fall Session members.
While we are disappointed to have to share this news, our first priority is to ensure the health and well-being of our members, our staff and our community. Your patience, support and wonderful feedback has meant the world to us.
If you have questions regarding account credits or programming updates, please call our office at 519-658-4670 (our office is open from 12 to 7:30 p.m. from Monday to Friday) or email info@dynamogymnastics.ca.
Dynamo coach shares story of helping athlete in transition
/in NewsWe are so proud to share this story authored by Dynamo Gymnastics Sports Centre’s Tumbling Sports Head Coach, Denis Vachon. It was written for CBC.
Coaching an Athlete in Transition, My World is a Better Place Because of Her
E is for Emily. I have been coaching for almost 20 years. I have produced many world class athletes. I have taken advanced coaching courses around the world. But nothing and no one prepared me for the delicate challenge of coaching an athlete who was going to transition.
I had to learn quickly, and as error-free as possible, because this child needed me.
When I first met Emily, we called her by a boy’s name, which also started with E. (Something else I learned quickly: the trans community hears disrespect in ‘dead’ names. So we try to avoid using them.) As a young boy, he was timid, shy, stuttered a bit and had a difficult time looking you in the eye. If he did raise his eyes though, you’d see a sparkle and a glimpse of something beautiful. When E was 12, his mother asked for a meeting to tell me he’d gained the strength to tell his parents he was meant to be a girl and that they were honoring his wishes to do so.
