Dynamo’s Brooklyn Moors finishes 16th in Olympic All-Around Finals

TOKYO, JPN (July 29, 2021) – Brooklyn Moors of Cambridge, ON took to the competition floor on Thursday at the Ariake Gymnastics Centre in Tokyo, JPN in the women’s all-around finals and laid down four solid routines to finish the day in 16th position.

Sunisa Lee of the USA took the gold, while Rebecca Andrade of Brazil took silver, and Angelina Melnikova of Russia captured bronze.

“I didn’t think about what I would come in overall today, I just focused more on having fun and on myself. I had a few mistakes here and there, but overall it was pretty consistent and I’m happy,” said Moors following the competition.

Moors, who trains at Dynamos Gymnastics in Cambridge, was the lone Canadian to compete in the final due to the withdrawal of Ellie Black of Halifax, NS on Wednesday because of an injury to her ankle sustained in training.

“I honestly did my best for what I could right now. I didn’t have a lot of time to prepare, but I’m really really proud of myself that I was able to get ready in such a short amount of time with a lot of help from a lot of people which I’m really thankful for,” added Moors who only began training consistently in early March because of a nagging back injury.

When asked about not having Black on the floor with her, Moors stated: “I was sad for her, she worked so hard and she deserved it, and I think it would have been our fourth all-around together –  but she drew something on my bag for today so she was with me.”

Moors started the evening on beam where she scored a 12.433. An inquiry was submitted following her score being posted but her score remained unchanged. Next up was floor where Moors demonstrated her beautiful artistry once again and scored a 13.566. On vault, she scored a 14.300, and she finished up the evening with another clean routine on the uneven bars to score a 13.000 for a total score of 53.299.

Next up in the artistic gymnastics competition for Canada are the apparatus finals which kick off on Sunday, August 1st where Shallon Olsen of Surrey, BC will be competing in the vault final. Tuesday, August 3rd will feature the balance beam final which Black has qualified for and hopes to compete in.
