Spence captures bronze in vault final at Youth Olympic Games

GYMNASTICS CANADA | BUENOS AIRES, ARG (October 13, 2018) – Emma Spence of Cambridge, ON represented Canada on the podium of the women’s vault final at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Saturday, capturing the bronze medal.

After finishing tenth in Friday’s all-around final, Spence was able to regroup and put her best foot forward in the vault final scoring 13.483 points.

“I’m overall very happy with how today went,” said Spence following competition. “I’ve been working really hard at the gym on my vaults and I’m glad that it paid off today!”

Spence will compete in the floor and beam apparatus finals on Monday for a chance at two more medals.

“I’m so excited about this moment,” said Emma’s coach Denis Vachon. “Emma is an insanely hard worker who deserved this success. Tonight, we celebrate her success and tomorrow we go back to focusing for beam and floor finals.”

Félix Dolci of Laval, QC finished sixth in the men’s floor final on Saturday, scoring 13.333 points. He will now compete in the rings and vault final on Sunday before competing in the high bar final on Monday.
